Martin County Sheriff's Department Warning About IRS Scam

Last updated on Friday, October 16, 2015

(SHOALS) - The Martin County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public of another telephone scam.

A Martin County resident notified the Sheriff's Department that they received a call from someone saying they were with the IRS. The caller ID showed up as the Sheriff's Department number.

The caller told the resident that they were sitting at the sheriff's department and that the resident needed to pay. If the resident did not pay, the IRS would show up at their home with a Federal Marshall with an arrest warrant.

The resident told the caller that they were going to contact their local Sheriff directly and the call immediately ended.

Authorities say if you receive a similar call, do not give out any personal information.
