Last updated on Friday, October 23, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was injured after traveling at a high-rate of speed and loosing control of his 2002 Honda CBR600 on loose gravel on Peerless Road Thursday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 23-year-old Nathan Haynes was traveling west on Peerless Road when he peaked a hill near McFadden Ridge Road and lost control of his motorcycle on the loose gravel. The bike slid into an eastbound 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 69-year-old John Davis.

Police say Davis was stopped to wait to make a left turn onto McFadden Ridge Road when the motorcycle topped the hill at a high-rate of speed and veered into his lane of travel.

Davis told police he swerved to avoid a head-on collision. The motorcycle collided into the passenger side of the truck.

Haynes suffered bleeding to his elbow and lower arm and was taken by an IU Health Hospital ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Davis was not injured.

Haynes was cited for operating a motorcycle without a motorcycle endorsement.

Marshall Volunteer Fire Department first responders assisted at the scene.
