(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly hit a 5-year-old boy, hurting him.

Bedford police arrested 23-year-old Nathaniel Reed of Bedford on a warrant of a felony charge battery on a person younger than 14.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Reed allegedly slapped the boy in the face, lifting him from his feet and knocking him to the ground

The affidavit does not say where the incident happened.

Reed remained in the Lawrence County Security Center on no bond because he was out on probation at the time of this new charge.

This is not the first time Reed has been arrested for hurting a child.

On January 29 Reed was arrested after he allegedly hit a child with a belt and left the boy injured.

The Department of Child Services received a complaint of possible child abuse and requested a welfare check on the victim at a home in the 100 block of Dale Street in Mitchell.

Reed was arrested on a charge of battery on a minor younger than 14 years old.

According to Mitchell Police Chief Mike Hardman Reed used a belt to strike a boy causing bruising to the boy's right wrist and lower back. The boy was an acquaintance of Reed.

According to court records, on April 15, he pleaded guilty to the Class A misdemeanor and was sentenced to one year in prison, which was suspended to supervised probation.
