(SULLIVAN) - A Sullivan man was arrested after police received a 911 call Saturday reporting another man had been shot in the head at a home in the 2300 block of South County Road 350 East in rural Sullivan County.
According to police, 30-year-old Ryan Wilson became enraged when he learned his former girlfriend had two other male friends visiting her home.
According to witnesses one of the male, 38-year Matt Johnson, of Dugger, was sleeping on the living room floor when Wilson allegedly entered through a back door, kicked Johnson in the face. Johnson stood to confront Wilson and that is when Wilson pulled a handgun and pointed it a Johnson's face. Johnson attempted to push the handgun away and that is when Wilson fired one shot striking Johnson in the head.
The .45-caliber bullet grazed the top of Johnson's head causing a severe laceration, before lodging in the drywall ceiling.
As the female called 911, Wilson fled to his pickup truck, which he had hid in a wooded area north of the residence.
The other male guest rushed the injured Johnson to Sullivan County Community Hospital emergency room via private vehicle. After arriving at the hospital, Johnson was taken by Lifeline helicopter to an Indianapolis trauma center, where he remains in stable condition.
Sullivan County sheriff's deputies informed Indiana State Police, Greene County Sheriff's Department, Linton Police and Dugger Town Marshal who all began searching for Wilson who they considered armed and dangerous.
After a seven hour search, Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom was able to contact Wilson by cellphone and encouraged him to turn himself in, which he did at 3:10 p.m. Saturday.
Ryan Wilson is facing a felony charge of battery with deadly weapon and two felony counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. He is being held in the Sullivan County Jail on a cash bond of $23,000 with no 10 percent allowed.
Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom praised the multiple law-enforcement agencies involved for their quick response, thorough investigation and safe resolution to this very dangerous situation.
