Last updated on Thursday, October 8, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indiana University student was arrested on a felony charge of rape.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Joe Qualters, police arrested 20-year-old Aaron Farrer after a 20-year-old woman reported Farrer sexually assaulted her after a party at her home on September 24.

Police say the woman, who was intoxicated, was in the care of Farrer after others at the party asked him to care for her while they went to the bars.

The woman, who was in no condition to consent to sexual activity, told police that after her friends left Farrer assaulted her.

The next day the woman went to a campus health clinic for a sexual assault examination. She then reported the assault to Bloomington Police.

Police arrested Farrer at his home in the 400 block of East 15th Street at 11:52 p.m. He is being held without bond at the Monroe County Jail.

During an interview with detectives, Farrer claims the woman was not too intoxicated to give consent and that the two had been flirting during the party and that the woman initiated the sexual activity.

However, the woman showed police a text message she received from Farrer the next day apologizing for the incident.

Farrer, who had started the cadet program of the Indiana University Police Department, was immediately suspended.

According to Farrer's Facebook page he is also a member of IU Army ROTC program and a private first-class in the Army National Guard.
