IU Bloomington To Host Nation's Largest University Law Fair

Last updated on Wednesday, October 7, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - More than 100 law schools have registered to be a part of Law Day at Indiana University Bloomington, scheduled for Thursday, October 8, at the Indiana Memorial Union.

Held by the IU Health Professions and Prelaw Center, Law Day is sponsored by the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors and is part of its 2015 Caravan series. This is the 11th year the event has held the record for the largest university law fair in the U.S.

"IU Bloomington has an outstanding reputation as a prelaw institution," said Mac Francis, prelaw advisor and director of the Health Professions and Prelaw Center. "Law schools look forward to speaking with prelaw students directly, and students have an incredible opportunity to gain an edge on the law school application process."

The Law Day fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Alumni Hall. Law school representatives will be available to answer questions and offer more information about programs. From 9 to 10:45 a.m. in the Frangipani Room, a discussion panel - featuring Janet Hein from IU Bloomington Maurer School of Law, Amy Beier-Best from the University of Iowa School of Law and Iain Davis from the University of Denver College of Law - will explain what to do and what not to do on a law school application.

Students will also have an opportunity to see a mock admission committee meeting for an inside look at the selection process. Representatives from three law schools will present files of actual applicants, as they would in a real admissions meeting, offering insights into the decisions they make. It will take place in the Dogwood Room from 3:15 to 5 p.m.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center estimates that 4,000 students from more than 53 majors at IU Bloomington are interested in attending law school. The event will be informative for students at every stage of the application process, from considering a law degree to actively applying for programs.

All events at Law Day are free and open to the public. For more information, visit the Law Day website.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center, a program of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, provides advising and other services for students who want to pursue careers in law, medicine and other health professions. Students considering careers in these professions must excel academically and plan carefully.

The center works closely with IU students throughout their undergraduate years, and with IU alumni, to help them become thoughtful, well-prepared, competitive applicants to professional programs. For more information, visit the Health Professions and Prelaw Center website or call (812) 855-1873.
