Indiana State Police Investigating Counterfeit Money

Last updated on Monday, October 26, 2015

(BEAN BLOSSOM) - A Bean Blossom merchant is out $20 after a person left counterfeit money in his “honor box.”
Buddy Smith owns a farm off State Road 135 North where he sells pumpkins and melons.

Indiana State Police investigators says could tell the money was counterfeit right away.

Smith is a family friend of Paul Suding, the district investigative commander for the Criminal Investigation Division at the Indiana State Police Bloomington Post.

Police say a person can tell if money is counterfeit if the magnetic strip or watermarks in the bill are missing and if the money feels different, like printer paper.

On October 12 and 19, the Brown County Sheriff's Department received calls about counterfeit money on Van Buren Street. On October 13, counterfeit money was reported at a business on State Road 46 East.

Police ask that anyone who believes money used in a purchase is counterfeit to contact police immediately.
