Greene County Clerk's Office To Stop Performing Marriage Ceremonies In 2016

Last updated on Wednesday, October 28, 2015

(BLOOMFIELD) - Greene County Clerk Susan Fowler announced that effective January 1, 2016, the Greene County Clerk’s Office will no longer be performing civil marriage ceremonies.

Fowler told the Greene County Daily World that the office will still issue marriage licenses, but citizens will have to look elsewhere to have the ceremony performed.

Fowler says most counties have stopped performing marriage ceremonies and now Greene County is seeing couples from other counties coming to Bloomfield to have the ceremonies performed.

The problem is that many don't bring the proper paperwork with them to have the ceremonies performed. That becomes a hassle so officials have decided to stop performing any ceremonies.
