Bond Hearing Set For Murder Suspect

Last updated on Friday, October 2, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - Taylor Roxann Kirby, who is charged with killing her husband, will attend a bail review hearing Monday. She is currently being held in the Monroe County Jail without bond on a murder charge.

Kirby allegedly shot her husband four times Sunday afternoon at the couple's home on San Juan Drive. The couple's two toddlers witnessed the shooting.

Taylor Kirby, who worked as a custodian for Indiana University's residential Programs and Services until she resigned on September 8, claimed she is indigent. The court appointed a public defender to represent her.

Taylor Kirby told police she shot her husband, 26-year-old Justin Kirby, during an argument because she feared for her life. Taylor claims that during that argument her husband approached her with clenched fists.

However Monroe County Police detectives say the evidence contradicts Taylor's claim saying she fired the four shots into Justin's back. Police found the murder weapon, a black .380 Ruger, lying on the kitchen counter.

Before Saturday's fatal shooting, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies were called to the couple's home on August 17 after Taylor requested an officer to accompany her to the residence to retrieve her belongings. She told police her husband wouldn't let her take her stuff. The couple had a verbal argument earlier but police say the fight was not physical.
