Last updated on Tuesday, October 13, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - A woman committed suicide by jumping from her fourth-floor apartment window at The Middle Way House’s The Rise.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Joe Qualters, 51-year-old Laurie Spoor was pronounced dead at IU Bloomington Health Hospital at 3:36 p.m. Sunday.

People driving on East Smith Avenue, near South Washington Street, told police they stopped to check on an unconscious woman lying in the bushes and called 911.

Emergency responders performed CPR on Spoor at the scene and as she was transported to the hospital.

Investigators checked Spoor's fourth-floor apartment. The screen to a living room window had been cut with a knife and removed. Police say that neighbors and witnesses reported Spoor had threatened suicide in the past.

Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer ruled Spoor's death a suicide.

The Rise provides affordable furnished apartments for low-income and homeless women and families that have experienced domestic violence.
