Bloomfield Man Arrested For Allegedly Causing Fatal Crash After Smoking Meth

(BLOOMFIELD) - A Bloomfield man accused of driving under the influence of meth and causing a crash that killed a Spencer man has been arrested.

Shawn Kenneth Toon, 31-years-old at the time of the crash, is facing felony charges In the Greene County of possession of meth and maintaining a common nuisance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

In the head-on crash in September 15 on U.S. 231, Toon is accused of driving under the influence of meth killing 36-year-old Scott Wilding.

According to an Indiana State Police report, just before 5:30 p.m., 31-year-old Toon of Bloomfield was traveling southbound on US 231, just north of State Road 46. At the same time, a 2011 Chevrolet truck driven by Wilding of Spencer was traveling northbound from State Road 46.

For unknown reasons, Toon's 1999 Ford truck crossed the centerline and struck Wilding's vehicle.

Toon was flown by helicopter from the scene to a hospital in Indianapolis.
Wilding died at the scene as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation launched by ISP has led to criminal cases filed against Toon in both Greene and Owen counties.

In the Owen County case, the Greene County Sheriff's Department started receiving information about Toon possibly having meth with him during the crash.

That led to a search warrant being issued for Toon's truck which had been towed to a local impound lot.

In the truck police found a large amount of cash, multiple baggies of meth, controlled substances, and other drug paraphernalia.

When Toon was interviewed by police after the accident, he allegedly admitted that had been smoking meth while driving between Indianapolis toward Bloomfield. He claims he blacked out at the time of the crash.

In the Owen County case, Toon is facing the following counts: operating a vehicle with a Schedule II controlled substance in blood causing death, a Level 5 Felony; dealing in meth, a Level 5 Felony; possession of meth, a Level 6 Felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.

In the Greene County case, Toon told police he had meth and a smoking device in the microwave at his home located at 883 East Scotland-Newberry Road, in Bloomfield. Toon gave trooper to search his home, which was unlocked. Once at the home police found the items.
