(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly struck his neighbor's parked motorcycle and then was uncooperative with police.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to a property damage accident at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of J Street.

When officers arrived the owner of the motorcycle and witnesses told police that they saw a man crash into the bike with his vehicle and then drive off turning left onto 18th Street. The vehicle then parked at a home at 1729 J Street.

The owner of the motorcycle told police that he approached 65-year-old Lester Treece about the damage done to his motorcycle.

Treece walked across the street with the owner and looked at the damage and then returned to his home.

When police approached Treece he denied driving the vehicle that struck the motorcycle.

"Mr. Treece's speech was slurred, his eyes were glassy and he was staggering," Parsley says.

Officers attempted to have Treece complete a field sobriety test.

"He failed a few and then refused to complete the others," Parsley says. "Officers placed Treece under arrest and that is when he began pulling away from the officers."

Treece then began yelling obscenities at the officers and witnesses and continued to struggle with police.

Officers took Treece To IU Health Hospital for a blood draw after Treece refused to do a breathalyzer.

Once at the hospital Treece became irate with hospital employees and refused to do a voluntary blood-draw, so officers obtained a search warrant and his blood was drawn.

Treece was then taken to jail on charges of habitual traffic offender, operating a vehicle while intoxicated refusal, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest by force. A charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated is pending on the blood test results.
