Vehicle Slams Into Building After Two-Vehicle Collision

Last updated on Monday, September 28, 2015

(BEDFORD) - No one was injured after a car crashed into Wilkins & Combs Insurance building Saturday morning.

According to a Bedford Police report, 20-year-old Isaac Hawkins of Springville was traveling north on I Street in a 2000 Jeep Cherokee just before 8 a.m. He had stopped at the stop sign at 17th Street and told police that he saw no approaching vehicles so he entered the intersection. That is when he struck a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina driven by 76-year-old Cecelia Atkinson of Bedford.

Atkinson told police that she couldn't stop to avoid the collision.

The force of the collision sent Atkinson's car into the building at 1637 I Street. The business, owned by Donald Henderson, was boarded up after the wreck.

Police estimate $25,000 to $50,000 in damage was done to the building.
