U.S.P.S. Offering $10K Reward, Release Sketch Of Lyons Robbery Suspect

(LYONS) - Late Friday afternoon, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced a substantial reward of up to $10,000 being offered for information in the case of the Lyons Post Office robbery that occurred earlier this month.

In addition, they released a sketch of the suspect who allegedly robbed the post office and assaulted a postal employee.

According to U.S. Postal Inspector Laura A. Carter, says with the monetary reward, investigators are hoping someone will come forward with information that will lead to the suspect, an arrest and a conviction.

The U.S. Post Office in Lyons was robbed an a postal employee was assaulted.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 8 and was reported at 12:40 p.m.

According to U.S. Postal Inspector Dan Taylor, the employee was approached as she was locking up, then assaulted.

The 25-year-old employee, who has been employed at the post office for less than one year, was transported to Greene County General Hospital for medical treatment.

Details about the extent or nature of her injuries still have not been released, but Taylor says she was released from the hospital.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is the lead investigating agency on this case and several U.S. Postal Inspectors were on the scene that afternoon conducting their investigation with assistance from the Lyons Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police.

No information has been released regarding what may have been stolen during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a stocky white male in his late 30s or early 40s, approximately 5' 8" or 5' 9" tall weighing approximately 200+ lbs. with dirty blond hair in a buzz cut. He may have had a mustache with a reddish tint. He was wearing a dark green t-shirt at the time of the incident.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000.

The announcement is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect but it cautions that citizens should take no action to apprehend this person.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at (877) 876-2455 or Inspector Maxwell at (317) 328-2523. According to the announcement, all information will be kept strictly confidential.
