Last updated on Wednesday, September 30, 2015

(BEDFORD) - Two women were arrested after Bedford Police officers received a tip that they were transporting heroin from Indianapolis to Lawrence County.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers had one of the women's vehicles under surveillance and stopped that vehicle at the intersection of Fifth Street and Ind. 37.

"We had received information of these individuals in a gray Pontiac that was driving back and forth almost daily to Indianapolis thought to be involved in narcotics trafficking," Parsley says.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver, 23-year-old Kayla Hawk of Orleans told police that she had several pills in her vehicle.

"Officers discovered three different types of pills," Parsley says.

Officers also knew that 33-year-old Lisha Hillenburg-Ray transported the heroin inside one of her body cavities.

Officers secured a search warrant and she was transported to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital where a female doctor would execute the warrant.

But before the doctor could execute the warrant, the more than 8 grams of heroin fell out of her body cavity. Health officials then did an x-ray to make sure there were no other drugs inside Hillenburg-Ray.

Hillenburg-Ray was arrested on charges of dealing in a schedule I controlled substance (heroin), possession of a schedule I controlled substance(heroin) and visiting a common nuisance.

Hawk was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, three counts of possession of a legend drug, dealing in a schedule I controlled substance (heroin) and possession of a schedule I controlled substance (heroin).
