Spring Mill State Parks Will Charge Fee To Enter Haunted Village

Last updated on Wednesday, September 16, 2015

(MITCHELL) - Spring Mill State Park will begin charging a $2 per-person fee to enter the annual Haunted Village event, which takes place October 10 this year.

Haunted Village has been running for nearly 25 years with no fee except the standard gate fee to enter the park. The new fee will help offset increasing costs.

The standard gate fee also increased this year to $7 per in-state vehicle. An Indiana family of four will spend $15 to experience the Haunted Village this year.

"We have tried to keep this cost at a minimum and hope that this decision will not change a family's decision to attend this fun event," said Coletta Prewitt, Spring Mill's volunteer coordinator.

During Haunted Village, the park's Pioneer Village is transformed with the streets and sidewalks lined with ghouls and ghosts. The park does not recommend children younger than 8 attend.

The line waiting to enter the Haunted Village has changed and will follow the asphalt path around Butternut playground to a building where the fee will be charged. This location will be cash only.

To be part of Haunted Village or to suggest an idea for a scary scene that you would like to present, contact Prewitt at springmillstatepark@dnr.IN.gov or (812) 849-3534.

Park admission during the event is $7 per in-state vehicle and $9 per out-of-state vehicle.
