Police: State On Track To Set Another Record For Meth Lab Arrests

Last updated on Tuesday, September 22, 2015

(UNDATED) - Indiana law enforcement agencies says Indiana routinely ranks in the top five states for most meth lab seizures.

The state is on track to take down more meth labs this years than they did last year.

Indiana State Police officials says other states are seeing a decrease, but in Indiana those who make the drug can still by a few of the chemicals and precursors to make the drug.

Indiana State Police say one of the key ingredients pseudoephedrine does have tough restrictions, but other states have gone a step further by making the drug a controlled substance where you can only purchase it with a prescription.

States that have taken that step are seeing a significant decrease in meth labs.

But restricting the over-the-counter medication is only half the battle, noting cities like Indianapolis have seen a huge increase in imported meth from other countries.
