(PATOKA LAKE) - The annual Cleanup Day at Patoka Lake is this Saturday.

Officials say the event helps ensure clean drinking water for more than 100,000 people in 11 Southern Indiana counties.

"Please bring your friends and family and help us pick up trash that has accumulated along Patoka Lake's shoreline," said Rita Howel, member of the Patoka Lake Watershed Conservancy wrote in a press release. "Last year, 72 people assisted with the annual cleanup resulting in more than 1,300 pounds of trash being removed, but more help is needed this year."

Volunteer registration begins at 8 a.m. EST at Hoosier Hills Marina, which is located just off Hwy. 545 on the west end of the lake. Participants will receive specific information about where to pick up trash as well as gloves, bug spray, trash bags and grapplers.

The event ends at noon with a FREE lunch at the marina as well as a t-shirt and prize giveaway for participating volunteers. Be sure to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots.
