(PAOLI) - A Paoli man who suffered severe burns during a house fire early Saturday morning died.

Donnie Kee was flown by helicopter to a Louisville Hospital from the scene. He died early Saturday. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Dillman-Scott Funeral Home in Paoli

According to Southeast Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mart Martin, firefighters and an ambulance crew found Kee outside of the home at 4:05 a.m. The mobile home is located on State Road 37 about 8 miles south of Paoli. When firefighters arrived the home was engulfed in flames.

Kee's father, who is also named Donnie Kee, also suffered burns during the incident.

Martin says five other people were in the house including Cindy Kee, the elder Kee's wife. Four of the couple's grandchildren ranging from 3 to 9 years-old were also in the home.

Everyone was asleep when the fire started.

Cindy Kee was woken up after her husband noticed the blaze and began evacuating everyone from the home.

Cindy and the children escaped through a window. They then rushed to a neighbor's for help.

The children did not suffer any major injuries, just a few scratches, Martin says. Cindy injured her back after she fell from the window. She was taken by ambulance to IU Health Paoli Hospital for treatment and was released.

The younger Donnie Kee was found unresponsive, lying in the backyard with burns all over his body. Friends on Facebook are posting that the younger Kee passed away, but this has not been confirmed by officials. They are also posting that the younger Kee suffered the burns after he heroically saved his family from the burning home.

The State Fire Marshall's officer was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze.
