No Harmful Levels Of Blue-Green Algae Found In Lake Monroe

Last updated on Wednesday, September 9, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Indiana Department of Environmental Management says recent tests conducted at Lake Monroe revealed there were no harmful levels of blue-green algae in the water.

According to lake officials, if a large amount of the algae is found in the lake, it can put toxins in the water. Those toxins cause some skin irritations, and there have been reports of pets dying after drinking from lakes that contain the blue-green algae with high toxin levels.

Again, officials stress that no toxins were detected at Lake Monroe.
