"Take A Stand" Against Domestic Violence Oct. 1

Last updated on Tuesday, September 29, 2015

(UNDATED) - The Lawrence County Domestic Violence Coalition is asking residents to “Take A Stand” against domestic violence by participating in a moment of silence on Thursday, October 1 at 11 a.m.

During that minute, the coalition asks that you consider doing something to raise awareness that every 9 seconds a woman is battered or abused.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, who will Take A Stand in Washington D.C., will be using an audio track of a clock ticking with a chime every 9 seconds to emphasize how astounding this number truly is. This audio can be found and downloaded here.

They are asking residents to blow out a candle, release a balloon, have a person at your event sit down or turn around every 9 seconds for each victim during that minute in support of this statistic. The numbers cry out for acknowledgement

The coalition asks you to take a stand with us for those 7 women abused every minute, 400 women abused every hour and 10,000 women abused every day.

Please also employ social media to post images and/or video of your Take A Stand moment by using the hastags #STANDwithNCADV #tasncadv #takeastand and encouraging others to take a stand with all of us against domestic violence.

If you wish to participate with NCADV in Washington, DC on October 1st, please RSVP here.
