(MARTIN CO.) - A Martin County man was arrested after attempting to run from an Indiana State Trooper while in possession of drugs.

Indiana State Police reported that just after 1 p.m. on Thursday a Trooper pulled into the Marathon gas station in Loogootee and saw a male walking away from the property.

When the male saw the trooper he sprinted behind a parked semi.

Police arrested 55-year-old Joseph P. Smith of Washington.

When the Trooper searched the area behind the semi where Smith had hidden, the trooper found a pill bottle containing meth, hydrocodone and marijuana.

Smith was arrested on charges of meth, possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
