(LOOGOOTEE) - A Loogootee man goes to jail after officers arrest him on an outstanding warrant and find his stash of narcotics.
At 10:58 a.m. Friday, Senior Trooper Jarrod Lents, with Martin County Sheriff Travis Roush and Chief Deputy Josh Greene, arrived at 1408 Reinhart Road in Loogootee to attempt to locate 32-year-old James R. Honeycutt.
Honeycutt was wanted on a warrant through Martin County for felony charges of resisting law enforcement and intimidation, as well as a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
After checking the home, officers learned that Honeycutt was not there and could be staying with his girlfriend at Country Place Apartments in Loogootee.
Upon arriving at the apartments, officers were met by Honeycutt's girlfriend, who allowed officers inside the apartment to search for Honeycutt. Once inside, Honeycutt was found hiding inside a closet. He was arrested and taken to the Martin County Jail.
While officers were looking for Honeycutt, they found drug paraphernalia lying on a bed. After obtaining consent to search the apartment for additional drugs and drug paraphernalia, and with the use of Loogootee Police K-9 "Roxy," officers found Cyclobenzaprine (legend drug), Oxycodone (Schedule II drug), Diazepam (Schedule III drug), marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia. The legend and schedule drugs were not prescribed to anyone in the apartment.
It was later learned that the landlord of Country Place Apartments, along with Loogootee Police Officer Glen Akles, had previously given Honeycutt a verbal trespass warning, ordering him to not come back onto the Country Place Apartment property. By being in the apartment, Honeycutt was in violation of that order.
Honeycutt is now facing two charges of possession of a legend drug, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule III controlled substance, criminal trespassing, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
