(MITCHELL) - Dawn Keller and Tory Gwen were named the top vocalists at the 3rd Annual Z102 Persimmon Idol contest on Saturday.
Taking first place in the adult competition was Dawn Keller of Bloomfield with her rendition of "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals.
"The adult category had many strong voices... so this category in judging ultimately came down to stage performance and audience engagement," says Z102 Station Manager Holly Davis. "Dawn not only had a strong voice but she is a natural entertainer."
Taking first place in the youth competition was Tory Gwen of Paoli with her rendition of "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys.
"Tory's vocals were the strongest and go way beyond her years," says Station Manager Holly Davis. Gwen sang "a song that showcased her wide variety of range," Davis noted.
Contestants in the event, sponsored by Z102 102.5 WPHZ, were judged on: stage presence, entertainment value, vocal quality, word memorization, intonation and overall performance.
The winners in each division won a Persimmon Idol trophy, Z102 t-shirt, $100 cash prize and a guest appearance on Homespun Edge, Fridays at 5pm on 102.5 FM.
