(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University Police are investigating a sexual assault.

According to Lt. Craig Munroe, an officer encountered what appeared to be a man and a woman having sex in an alley behind Dunnkirk Square early Saturday morning. The officers saw the two as he drove through an alley behind the 400 block of East Kirkwood Avenue and approached the individuals.

Police say the two had met earlier at a local bar.

The 20-year-old woman, an IU student, told police she and the man had walked out of the bar and entered the alley about 2 a.m. That is where the man initiated sexual contact without her consent. The 28-year-old man, who is not an IU student, told police the woman gave consent.

Monroe says that a sexual assault kit was collected as evidence and the case remains under investigation.
