Spencer And Ellettsville Festivals Will Cause Traffic Detours Saturday

Last updated on Thursday, September 17, 2015

(UNDATED) - Travelers headed through Spencer or Ellettsville this Saturday may encounter some short delays or detours while traffic is diverted due to parades and festivals.

In Spencer, the Indiana Department of Transportation issued a permit to close state highways on the east side of Spencer where State Roads 46, 67 and 231 come together to make way for the Owen County community's Apple Butter Festival Parade which will be staged this Saturday, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

This is the 39th annual Apple Butter Festival. Attractions on the Spencer Square include food, crafts and musical entertainment.

In Ellettsville, the Indiana Department of Transportation has issued a permit to close eastbound State Road 46/Temperance Street on Saturday, for the Monroe County Fall Festival Parade.

Both eastbound lanes of S.R. 46 are scheduled to close between Edgewood Drive and Paul Street at 10:30 a.m. then reopen at 4 p.m. The permit also allows Ellettsville police to split traffic on one-way S.R. 46/Main Street to route eastbound traffic onto a counterflowing lane adjacent to westbound traffic.

In case of rain, the parade will be staged Sunday, September 20.

The Festival Parade begins at Edgewood Drive and continues to Paul Street. The route then travels along Ritter Street to Sale Street and back to Edgewood Drive where it started.

The Monroe County Fall Festival's theme is "Memories are the key not to the past, but to the future." The event has been creating "memories" for more than half a century.

Activities centered at the Marci Jane Lewis Park begin Thursday evening with a performance by the Edgewood Jazz Band preceding the Queen Contest. Friday and Saturday events feature craft booths, food vendors, a commercial tent and two stages of musical performances.
