Crews Will Works Nights To Keep Road Open To Extend Plaza Drive South

Last updated on Wednesday, September 9, 2015

(BEDFORD) - To avoid street closings the City of Bedford will pay $18,000 more for the Plaza Drive South extension project.

According to city officials, the project will extend Plaza Drive south from 16th Street, past the entrances to McDonald's and Lowe's Home Improvement store farther south, then turn west to link with State Road 37.

Crews will also be installing a storm sewer under James Avenue beginning in October. To do that Crider & Crider planned to close the street for two weeks, but Mayor Shawna Girgis said that was unacceptable. The company has agreed to install the storm water pipes and remove some of the asphalt between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. for two nights. Other work will be done during the day, but at least one lane of James Avenue will be kept open. The daytime work will take about 8 days to complete, weather permitting.

The total cost of the project now will be $2,248,459.
