Call Sheriff's Department Before Doing Controlled Burn

Last updated on Tuesday, September 8, 2015

(FAYETTEVILLE) - Indian Creek and Williams Volunteer Fire Department were called to a report of hay bales on fire at 11:11 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters rushed to the scene in the Report of hay bales on fire in the 500 block of Fayetteville Williams Road.

"When we arrived we learned the farmer had intentionally set the bales on fire," says indian Creek VFD Chief Monty Wright. "He was just wanting to get rid of the six hay bales."

The problem - he failed to notify the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department - about the controlled burn.

"If he had done that the sheriff's department wouldn't have dispatched us out and could have notified the caller what was going on," Wright added. "Instead we rushed to the scene to give assistance."

Wright asks that anyone in the county that is planning to burn brush or other items to please notify the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.
