Brown County School Superintendent To Retire

(BROWN CO.) - Brown County Schools Superintendent David Shaffer announced he will retire at the end of this school year after 44 years in public education.

He will retire June 30, 2016 after serving 8 years as superintendent. He has worked in the school system for more than 21 years.

According to the Brown County Democrat, Shaffer began working as a social studies teacher at Southport High School in Marion County in 1970. He then transferred to Perry Meridian High School in 1973 where he served as a social studies teacher, department chairperson and varsity boys and girls tennis coach.

In 1981, he joined the staff at Triton Central High School and was named assistant principal and athletic director in 1983. In 1985, he became principal.

Shaffer moved to Brown County in 1995 where he served as the assistant superintendent until becoming superintendent in 2007.

Plans to find his replacement have not been announced.
