Bedford Woman Cited Into Court After Taxi Takes Her To Hospital

Last updated on Thursday, September 24, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was cited into court after she hailed a Red Tire Taxi from Bloomington to Bedford and then told the driver to write her an IOU.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital on Monday at 10 p.m.

There they found 23-year-old Chelsea Edington of Bedford in labor.

"The taxi driver told police that Ms. Edington bolted from the taxi and told him to write her an IOU for the $60 cab fare," Parsley says.

Edington told police she was in labor and she "had been shackled over a religious statement" and was coming to St. Vincent to have her baby because she "wasn't going to any abortion hospital."

Police escorted Edington into the hospital for treatment, but not before issuing her a citation to appear in court on a theft charge because she refused to pay the cab fare.
