Bedford Man Arrested After Fighting With Police

Last updated on Wednesday, September 9, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police found him intoxicated and he resisted police.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to the 16th and I streets after a report of a man on the ground screaming obscenities.

When police arrived just after 11 p.m, they found 48-year-old Christopher Fitzgerald on the ground rolling around and yelling obscenities.

When asked what was wrong, Fitzgerald began yelling obscenities at officers.

"When they attempted to help him up he began fighting with the officers," Parsley says.

Officers then attempted to restrain Fitzgerald, but he continued to fight.

"That is when officers deployed their taser," Parsley added.

Afterwards, he was checked out by an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew and the taser barbs were removed. He was then taken to jail on charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
