Bedford Man Arrested After Allegedly Beating Woman

Last updated on Tuesday, September 8, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly blacked a woman’s eyes, broke her nose and caused contusions.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to a home in the 1800 block of 11th Street after a report of a domestic fight.

When officers arrived at 10:59 p.m. Sunday they found a group of people standing outside the home.

"A woman then came out of the house and pointed to a man saying he was the one that injured her," Parsley says. "As officers went to approached the man he fled on foot."

Two officers chased 35-year-old Bryan Crane.

"They had also deployed a K-9," Parsley added. "They found him hiding in a storage shed. He had to be forcibly taken into custody."

Before being taken to jail, Crane was taken to Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital after telling police he had injured his foot while running. He was treated for a possible broken toe.

The woman, who knows Crane, told police Crane entered her home while she was sleeping. She woke up and attempted to flee but Crane allegedly caught her outside of the home, where he began hitting her with his fist.

The woman's father was able to chase Crane away and called police.

"The woman was taken by a Seals ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital," Parsley says. "Both of her eyes were swollen shut, she had a broken nose and head contusions."

Crane is facing charges of domestic battery, battery causing serious bodily injury, resisting arrest, residential entry and possession of a controlled substance after police found him in possession of Suboxone and Clonazepam also known as Klonopin.

He is being held without bond because he was on probation at the time of this arrest.
