(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison last week after he admitted to pointing a shotgun at his ex-girlfriend after he says she was cheating on him.

According to police on On August 31, 2014, Patrick Gary was arrested on a warrant for domestic battery and put on probation in October. But on January 25 Gary broke into the woman's home in the 2500 block of Sanders Lane, entered the bedroom, pointed a shotgun at a couple and threatened to kill them.

The woman then rolled out of bed and took cover, while the male confronted Gary and placed his hands on the shotgun in an attempt to keep it being pointed at anyone.

The man was then able to talk Gary into the other room, where the gun was unloaded.

When they saw the lights from the police vehicles they walked outside and Gary was arrested on charges of invasion of privacy, intimidation, burglary, pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness and public intoxication.

He pleaded guilty to burglary, a Level 2 felony, and invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor in a negotiated plea deal

Superior Court Judge I Michael Robbins sentenced 24-year-old Gray to the maximum sentence allowed in the plea agreement - 17.5 years to the Department of Corrections. Three years which will be served on supervised probation, 2.5 will be on unsupervised probation and two years will be served on electronic monitoring. He was also ordered to participate in the batterers' prevention program. Gary received credit for 53 days already served.

For violating probation, the rest of the sentence from the earlier domestic battery charge was revoked and ordered to be served. Patrick Gary received credit from time he already spent in jail awaiting this sentence hearing. The other charges were dismissed.
