(MONROE CO.) - Department of Natural Resource officials are warning Hoosiers to watch out for rattlers.

The agency says the heat is making snakes more active, like the timber rattlesnakes found in Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Multiple endangered rattlesnakes have been found in forests in southern Indiana. They are showing up in Brown County State Park and in Morgan-Monroe State Forest.

The rattlers are endangered and DNR says it is illegal to kill them.

The snakes tend to be passive and don't attack unless provoked. DNR officials say to give them a wide berth and they'll leave anybody alone.
