Virgil I. Grissom Municipal Airport To Install New Fuel System

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Council approved the Lawrence County Board of Aviation Commissioners is borrow around $200,000 from Economic Development Fund to install a new fuel system at Virgil I. Grissom Municipal Airport.
Jeff Lytton. a member of the Lawrence County Board of Aviation Commissioners, says that the current underground tanks are old and need replaced.
In other business the council:
- Approved using $28,700 from the Dunn Post Closing Fund to pay for new light fixtures on the courthouse grounds. The new lighting is needed because the light poles are no longer secure at the foundations and present a liability issue for both the county and Duke Energy.
- Approved a request from Highway Superintendent Dave Holmes to use $65,000 to purchase paving materials. Holmes says $35,000 will be used in District one, with $30,000 being used in District 4.
- Accepted Health Department grants of $18,584 for public health emergency preparedness, $5,412 for the volunteer Medical Reserve Corps and $18,065 for an Ebola virus emergency plan.
- Approved a request from Sheriff Mike Branham to fill a staff vacancy at the jail and authorized distribution of public safety fund monies requested by the county's volunteer fire departments.
