Two Teens Arrested On Drug, Weapon Charges

(WASHINGTON) - A traffic stop late Tuesday night landed two teenagers behind bars and took drugs, money and weapons off the streets.

According to an Indiana State Police press release, around 10:36 p.m. Tuesday, Trooper Mitchell Wier observed a blue 1991 Ford Festiva traveling east on Vantrees Street in Washington make a right hand turn onto Northwest 6th Street.

The Ford traveled left of center, nearly driving into the grass on the wrong side of the road.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, 18-year-old Zachary Johnson of Washington. While speaking with Johnson, the trooper could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

When asked about the odor, Johnson handed the trooper a small bag of marijuana that he had in his shirt pocket.

With the assistance of Washington Police Department Sergeant Brandon Humphries and Sergeant Derrick Devine, along with Divine's K9 partner "Diesel", and Trooper Wier searched the car and found a backpack containing over a quarter-pound of marijuana, a .22 caliber handgun, a pellet gun, and numerous cell phones.

The backpack belonged to a 17-year-old passenger, who police are not naming. A large amount of money was also found on both teens.

Johnson was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of marijuana and was taken to the Daviess County Security Center.

The 17-year-old was transported to the Washington Police Department, where police found he also had meth.

The teen was arrested on charges of possession of meth, dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana over 30 grams, reckless possession of a firearm without a permit and visiting a common nuisance and taken to Southwest Juvenile Center in Vincennes.
