Students Arriving At Indiana University

Last updated on Friday, August 21, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - 7,879 Freshman students from all 92 Indiana counties, 47 state and 33 countries with a median GPA of 3.76 are moving to Bloomington this week to attend Indiana University.

According to IU officials this is a record number of freshmen and IU President Michael McRobbie has been greeting families are they arrive. President McRobbie has held meet-and-greets on move-in day since before he became president in 2007.

IU's freshman class is the most diverse in university history, according to a statement from vice provost for enrollment management David B. Johnson. African-Americans make up 5 percent of the incoming class and Hispanic/Latino students make up 7 percent of the class.

About 17 percent of first-year students with a known race or ethnicity are from underrepresented populations. Current projections show the number of African-American students has increased by 12 percent and Hispanic/Latino students increased by 23 percent.

The average combined SAT/ACT score for first-year students is estimated to be a little more than 1217, which is an increase from the record set in 2013.
