State Road 446 To Close At Little Salt Creek For Bridge Work

Last updated on Monday, August 10, 2015

(HELTONVILLE) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close State Road 446 at the Little Salt Creek bridge, located 2.55 miles west of State Road 58, beginning Wednesday for repairs and deck overlay.

INDOT officials advise motorists to use U.S. Highway 50 and S.R. 37 to circumvent the closure. The roadway is expected to reopen on August 17.

RAM Construction, the state's contractor, will be on site Wednesday - weather permitting - to begin replacing bridge joints and making epoxy mortar repairs. The specialty contractor will then install a 3/8-inch polymeric bridge deck overlay atop the 3-span State Road 446 Little Salt Creek structure.

The polymeric epoxy will be placed in two lifts to seal the deck and extend service life of the bridge. Flint chips will be mixed with the epoxy to achieve long-lasting surface friction for better maneuverability and stopping capabilities.

The $136,263 Seymour District contract also called for repairs and a polymer overlay at the Leatherwood Creek bridge on State Road 446. That work has been completed.
