(LAKE SULLIVAN) - Police discovered crucial evidence in the murders of Tiffanie Adams and her unborn child.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police and Department of Natural Resources Dive Team spent Wednesday and Thursday at Sullivan Lake looking for Adams' cell phone. They believe they found it.
The phone was located underwater along County Road 300 North, just off a causeway that crosses Lake Sullivan, less than two miles from where the body of Adams and her unborn baby were discovered in a cornfield in December.
At the time of her murder, Adams was nearly eight months pregnant with a baby boy.
Police say the phone is extremely important because they believe the killer used the phone to text his wife just prior to killing Adams. They also believe Adams placed a distress call from that same phone a short time later, as she was being attacked.
The phone has been sent to the Indiana State Police laboratory for extensive forensic examination, where they will be looking for the killer's fingerprints and processing the memory chip for vital information.
Adams was last seen November 5 walking from her father's home on North Broad Street to her mother's residence nearly one block away. Her family reported her missing on November 7, 2014.
On the afternoon of December 30, 2014, a farmer found her remains while harvesting corn in a farm field near County Road 300 North and County Road 325 East, northeast of Sullivan.
The coroner identified Adams' body by using dental records. Forensic Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr determined Adams died from asphyxiation caused by strangulation.
Her step-brother, Jonas Orr, was arrested in January. He was charged with two counts of murder and is currently awaiting trial.
