(SEYMOUR) - Company officials with Pet Supplies Plus say they can't wait to start building Seymour's first dog park.

It's a project the public has asked about for several years now, and city officials said they are glad it's finally going to happen.

On Friday, PSP employees gathered with Mayor Craig Luedeman and Jim Plump, executive director of Jackson County Industrial Development Corp., on the grassy front lawn of the pet supply warehouse and distribution center.

The pet specialty retailer leases and equip a 763,000 square-foot facility in the Eastside Industrial Park on East Fourth Street in Seymour. The dog park will be located in a grassy area to the north of Pet Supplies Plus' parking lot. The park will be fenced in, and there will be areas to keep large dogs separate from small dogs.

The company relocated its warehousing operations from southeastern Michigan to Seymour, creating up to 135 new jobs by 2016.

The consolidation and expansion will more than double the company's capacity to support its existing and planned retail store customer-base. Pet Supplies Plus plans to begin shipping to customers in August from its Seymour location.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Pet Supplies Plus up to $850,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Seymour approved additional property tax abatement at the request of the Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation.

"With our location along Interstate 65, we are well-positioned to attract major logistics companies and we are thrilled PSP selected Seymour for its new distribution center," said Seymour Mayor Craig Luedeman. "Our area has seen solid growth over the past year and PSP's decision gets 2012 off to a great start for us."
