Last updated on Monday, August 24, 2015

(BEDFORD) - Kyle Brown will step down as leader of the the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County. His last day as chief professional officer will be August 28.

President of the Board Angie Lewis says Brown has been CPO since April 2013 following 23 years working for the City of Bedford.

Brown directed the organization as it became a unified club following the merger of the Thornton Memorial Boys Club and Limestone Girls Club.

Lewis released a statement on behalf of the club's board of directors:

"We are fully supportive of Kyle's impending decision and wish him only the best. He has played a critical role in the formation of our club and provided crucial leadership through multiple difficult situations. The members, board and community owe him appreciation for the time he has devoted to the care and education of our youth."

A youth professional with 18 years of experience in club operations will step in as interim director. Officials have not yet released the name of the professional.

"She will be able to help assess the state of our organization and offer insight for improvements in addition to filling the role in an interim capacity. We will also embark on a search for a new director through an open and competitive process should the transition occur as expected," she wrote.

"This organization has come a long way in the past two and a half years. We have a committed board, a solid strategic plan and many financial controls in place. Our success does not hinge on any one person. Kyle has been a great director, and we are all excited about increasing our relevance and value to this community. We will ensure the appropriate leadership is in place to see our plans to fruition and the community's continued support is critical for that success."
