Have Someone Arrested To Raise Funds For Disabled Veterans Wish Foundation

Last updated on Wednesday, August 26, 2015

(BEDFORD) - The Disabled Veterans Wish Foundation of Indiana, along with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, is conducting a jail-a-thon September 8-9.

"We are encouraging people to nominate someone to be 'arrested,' said Bob Hughes, an officer with the organization. "Off-duty and reserve Lawrence County officers will be dispatched to pick people up and bring them back to 'jail' at the DVWF office (1515 G St.)"

After being "arrested" the prisoner will be allowed to call a friend or family member to post their bail.

A bail collector will then be dispatched to go and collect the bail money.

A running total of the funds raised will be kept at the make-shift jail.

"That was the problem with the old jail-a-thons, people never knew how much money was raised," Holmes says. "This way people will know"

The bail will be used to grant wishes to Lawrence County veterans, so far the organization has granted 43 wishes.

While in jail "prisoners" will be fed.

An application form to have someone "arrested" can be found at various places around town, or by calling the DVWF office at (812) 275-5520.

Arrest forms need to be turned in by September 6.
