Crews Will Look Into Placing Guardrails On Sieboldt Quarry And Harrodsburg Roads

(BEDFORD) - Crews will look into placing guardrails along Sieboldt Quarry and Harrodsburg roads.

Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Max Peters told the Lawrence County Commissioners on Tuesday morning that in the last year more than 8 vehicles have become inverted after crashing at that location.

"There is a 5-foot drop on the north side of the road and a 6-foot drop on the south side," Peters says. "Any vehicle that hits those metal culverts is going to end up on its side or roof."

The commissioners asked Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes to make it a priority to look into placing guardrails in that location.

Peters also requested that the commissioners look into widening the road to the Lawrence County Recreation Park.

Peters says that at times more than 20,000 visitors go to the park on any given motor cross race day.

"This is only a half a mile stretch of road off Seiboldt Quarry Road, but it is a dangerous situation," Peters says. "Two semis, one coming and one going, can not pass on that roadway and it is difficult to get an ambulance back there. I have had to pull several of the semi's out of the ditches during any event."

Peters added that the racing community brings in thousands of dollars to the community.

The commissioners say that they know this is a concern and have been looking at addressing the issue.

Mitchell resident Ron Pridemore again addressed his concerns about allegations of discrimination by Lawrence County Veterans Services Officer Brad Bough. But before he started, Commissioner President Chris May again told Pridemore that the the commissioner's policy is not to address personnel matters at public meetings. Those actions are conducted in an executive session. Bob Hughes, Vice President of Lawrence County Disabled Veterans Wish Foundation, spoke in favor of Bough saying that he has seen Bough go above and beyond helping those who were homosexual receive benefits.

"I can't understand why we are even discussing this," Hughes stated. "He (Bough) doesn't deserve this. Why would you (Pridemore) want to tanish another veteran's name. We all fought for the same thing, our freedom. Mr. Bough has never discriminated against anyone."

Crews will begin pouring the deck on Bridge 89 on Guthrie Road over Salt Creek. Holmes says it will take 10 to 12 days for the deck to cure and then crews will begin placing the guardrails.

Sherry Lawson of the Lawrence County Health Department presented two contracts for two part-time nurses at the Health Department. Those nurses will be replacing a nurse that retired and one that quit to further her career.

Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham reported that there were 145 inmates at the jail Tuesday morning, of those 39 were female and 3 were Department of Correction holds.

Branham also introduced Jail Commander Travis Sanders to the commissioners.
