Conservation District Cover Crop Workshop Aug. 27 In Scottsburg

Last updated on Tuesday, August 18, 2015

(SCOTTSBURG) - As part of their 2015 Clean Water Indiana grant, the soil and water conservation districts in Clark, Jackson, Jefferson and Scott counties will have a prevented planting and cover crops workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. August 27 at Scottsburg.

This free workshop is aimed at landowners whose crop acreage was affected by the recent floods, either by causing the crop to fail or go unplanted, according to a news release.

Speakers include Dennis Brown with Byron Seed Company, who will give insight on what can be done with prevented plant or failed crop acreage; Tim Schwipps and Ruth Hackman, Natural Resource Conservation District conservationists, who will discuss maintaining soil health on those acres, and how cover crops can assist with that; and Steve Riley with Riley-Gasper Crop Insurance Agency, who will answer questions on how insurance works in a prevented plant/failed crop situation.
