Cause Of Fatal Freedom Fire Still Under Investigation

Last updated on Thursday, August 27, 2015

(FREEDOM) - The cause of a fatal Freedom fire that killed 43-year-old Dan Reynolds, 41-year-old Joy Reynolds and her 11-year-old son Bailey Little is still under investigation.

According to the state fire marshal, the investigation is ongoing and there are no updates available at this time.

The fire on August 5 at 2609 Firecrest Lane was so hot that it melted the copper piping and destroyed everything inside the home.

A firefighter driving to work at Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center saw the fire at 6 a.m.

The brick house was engulfed in flames when firefighters from Owen Valley, Franklin and Worthington Volunteer Fire Departments arrived.

Emergency personnel found Joy Reynolds and her son in the front yard. They both had suffered serious burns. Dan Reynolds ran to get help after the family escaped, but he collapsed not far from the home. He too suffered severe burns.

All three died from those injuries.

Family members suspect a propane gas leak from a water heater may have caused the blaze, but officials have not confirmed that theory.

Investigators say that it will be a long and tedious process digging through the debris to discover the cause of the incident leading to the fire.
