Boil Order Issued After Six Water Mains Break In Bloomington

Last updated on Thursday, August 6, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - The city has issued a precautionary water boil order for some customers following water main breaks Wednesday.

There were six breaks, all of which City of Bloomington Utilities crews had fix. The breaks occurred in the:

Eleven areas fall under the precautionary boil order: North Lane Condominiums, Amaryllis Condominiums, and customers on West Hoosier Court Avenue, West Parrish Road, West Skyline Drive, North Skyline Drive, West Dogwood Lane, West Clover Terrace, North Cascade Drive, North Maxine Road and North Kinser Pike between West Brookdale Drive and West Briar Cliff Drive are advised to boil drinking water for five minutes prior to consumption until further notice and to flush their water systems by running cold water through all fixtures until it runs clear.

Utilities officials were confident the breaks were related to a change in conditions after the department emptied its largest water storage tank in the central zone of the city's water distribution system. That tank is located at 17th Street and the Ind. 45/46 Bypass, department spokesman Jon Callahan said, and was emptied for a scheduled, routine painting.

All six streets had opened to traffic by 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Bloomington High School North principal Jeffry Henderson sent a message to the school's main email subscription list early Wednesday morning with a simple detour for those approaching the high school, which is off North Kinser Pike. Should that section of the road be closed in the future, drivers can take a left onto West Skyline Drive, a right onto North Cascade Drive, another right onto North Skyline Drive and then turn left back onto North Kinser Pike.
