(BEDFORD) - The Bedford City Council will host a public meeting today on the rehabilitation and renovation of the former JC Penney Building located at 931 15th Street into the StoneGate Arts & Education Cultural Center.

This is part of the Stellar Communities projects. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Trena Carter, grant administrator with Administrative Resources Association says the state has set aside the money for the project, but the city must apply to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs for a grant from the state Community Development Block Grant Program to fulfill regulatory requirements.

The city plans to request $1.5 million, the city will make up the difference of $649,531 in local funds.

City officials say they hope to have the grant application ready by the end of August and begin construction next year.
