(BEDFORD) - The City of Bedford and the Indiana Department of Transportation will once again try to land bids to move the Milwaukee Depot.

No bids were received on August 5th. A new bid date has been scheduled for October 7.

As part of Bedford's Stellar Initiative, the Milwaukee Depot will be shifted from its current site about 1,200 feet south to a vacant lot at 14th and J streets. Bedford Urban Enterprise gifted the depot to the city.

Following extensive renovation, the building will serve as a trailhead for the downtown Limestone Trail.

Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis, says the language in the bid documents made it difficult for some organizations to bid on the project to both move and renovate the depot.

She added many companies don't have problem with moving the building, but the renovations has some contractors hesitant to bid because the original documents didn't give contractors any room to use their own suppliers and there was confusing about the restoration to the inside of the depot.

Mayor Girgis says hopefully those concerns and misconceptions will change because the bid packages has been revised to address contractors' concerns.
