Last updated on Wednesday, July 22, 2015

(WASHINGTON) - Washington Municipal Utilities is warning customers about a scam.

Someone is calling customers posing at Washington Municipal Utilities employees stating the customers are delinquent on their utility accounts and demanding payment by money order or face disconnection.

WMU officials do not call customers demanding payment be sent by money order. They also do not make calls to customers after hours or on weekends or holidays. If a customer is delinquent they will be sent a notice on their monthly utility bill.

If any customer receives a phone call from a third party demanding payment, disregard and contact law enforcement.

If any customer has a question regarding the balance on a utility account, call WMU at (812) 254-5717.
