School Board Fires Teacher Accused Of Child Molestation

Last updated on Thursday, July 23, 2015

(SEYMOUR) - The Seymour school board fired a seventh-grade teacher who remains in jail on charges of child molesting.

40-year-old Aaron D. Murray of Seymour, a seventh grade math teacher at Seymour Middle School, was arrested July 14 on three counts of child molesting involving one of his students.

School board members did not discuss the matter at the public meeting Tuesday night but voted unanimously to terminate Murray's teaching contract effective immediately.

According to police, Murray is accused of having a relationship with a 12-year-old student. Officials say the two spent time together at school-related activities, but once school ended in May, the relationship intensified with social media interactions, shopping and hikes.

Police became involved on July 1 when the girl's parents reached out to authorities after hearing about inappropriate text messages on their daughter's phone.

According to police, based on information from Murray, the girl and her friends, they're aware of three or four incidents that they believe Murray engaged in sexual contact with the girl. Police say Murray cooperated with police and admitted to the allegations.

Police say at this time they're not aware of any other victims.
